As a benchmark enterprise in Taiwan’s food industry, Uni-President Enterprises Corporation rigorously selects its suppliers and places great emphasis on source management. All partner suppliers are required to meet Uni-President’s quality policy. In 2014, the company therefore partnered with MiDFUN to deploy an SQ (Supplier Quality and Food-Safety Control) system, making effective use of the system to manage partner-supplier assessment procedures and risk-tier control.
The partner-supplier assessment procedure covers three dimensions—environment, human rights, and product. After the assessment, partner suppliers are classified into three risk tiers—high, medium, and low—based on how well they implement each assessment item 1. Those assessed as high risk are not placed on the qualified list and are not engaged for business. For partner suppliers that are already qualified, an annual on-site assessment schedule is planned each year according to the most recent risk-tier result: in addition to medium-risk suppliers, who must be assessed annually, low-risk suppliers are assessed at least once every two years or every four years, depending on whether the partner supplier is a manufacturer or a trader.
Through the system’s IQC process control, Uni-President strictly governs the item specifications of food-safety hazard factors and, in combination with the supplier assessment module, conducts rigorous management. Going forward, the company will continue to strengthen partner-supplier management and extend food safety throughout the supply chain.
Looking ahead to 2019, in addition to reinforcing supplier food safety this year, Uni-President and MiDFUN continue to collaborate on planning internal and external quality tracking and stability for both in-process food safety and outsourced-process quality control, aiming to integrate subsequent supplier food safety with in-process food safety. Beyond enhancing in-plant efficiency, the goal is to provide consumers with even greater assurance of quality and food safety.
