[2025 Case] SPC System Still Unusable After Years of Effort? How Global CCL Leader Taiwan Union Technology (TUC) Solved It

最後更新:2026.06.22

January 12, 2025 | Project Lead: Yi-Hao Li | Electronic Materials Industry – SPC Statistical Process Control – CCL Copper Clad Laminate

Customer Background: A Global Leader in Ultra-Low-Loss CCL

TUC, formerly known as Taiwan Union Glass, was founded in 1974 and started out in optical glass manufacturing. In 1997 it successfully transformed and expanded into the production and manufacturing of copper clad laminate (CCL) and prepreg.

As AI demand surges, TUC’s products have moved from traditional 3C applications into high-end fields such as 5G communications, data centers, and big data applications. In the market for the “ultra-high-speed, low-loss CCL” required by AI servers and high-end networking equipment, TUC is one of the highest-market-share manufacturers in the world.

To strengthen supply chain resilience and meet the needs of international customers, TUC continues to expand capacity, and in 2025 it proactively added a production base in Thailand.

The Challenge: An SPC System That Still Could Not Be Used After Years of Rollout

MiDFUN first discussed cooperation with TUC in 2022. At that time, TUC already had an SPC system from another vendor in its plant, but because that vendor did not specialize in SPC and quality-management-related fields, the following problems arose:

  • The program design and development logic did not fit the practical needs of quality management
  • Insufficient completeness of quality management features
  • Still could not be brought online smoothly after years of rollout
  • Unable to satisfy in-plant needs and customer audit requirements

Because the previous cooperation experience with an external system vendor had failed to meet its needs, TUC’s quality department was even more cautious when switching system vendors this time.

The Solution: Synchronized Deployment of the MiDFUN SPC System Across Three Plants

After multiple rounds of discussion, TUC recognized MiDFUN’s professional capabilities and consulting experience in SPC and quality management, and decided to deploy the SPC system in one go across three plants: Taiwan (Zhubei), Guangdong (Zhongshan), and Jiangsu (Changshu).

Deployment Scope

Plant Location Deployed System
Taiwan Plant Zhubei, Hsinchu MiDFUN SPC System
Guangdong Plant Zhongshan, Guangdong MiDFUN SPC System
Jiangsu Plant Changshu, Jiangsu MiDFUN SPC System
Thailand Plant (added in 2025) Thailand MiDFUN SPC System

System Integration Architecture

The MiDFUN SPC system was deeply integrated with TUC’s existing in-plant systems, establishing a complete data flow and a closed loop for anomaly handling:

MES front-end automated data acquisition -> MiDFUN SPC system integration -> Team Plus alerts -> Flow system integration of HD/HL

  • MES integration: front-end automated data acquisition, eliminating manual transcription and key-in errors
  • Team Plus integration: real-time alert notifications for process anomalies, pushed to relevant personnel at the first moment
  • Flow system integration: connecting the HD (Handling Decision) / HL (Handling Line) anomaly-handling processes to form a closed loop of quality management

Customer audits passed

Thanks to the multiple rounds of prior communication and the foundation of mutual trust between the two sides, the rollout of the MiDFUN SPC system across the three plants was completed smoothly in under a year. The deployment results included:

  • Simplified operating procedures for personnel: automated data acquisition replaced manual recording, lowering the error rate
  • Real-time anomaly early warning and notification: through Team Plus integration, process anomalies are reported at the first moment
  • Complete audit trail: every data change is recorded, satisfying Data Integrity requirements
  • Passed audits by multiple domestic and overseas customers: smoothly passed verification and audits

Ongoing Cooperation: Thailand Plant Expansion

At the end of 2025, due to capacity expansion and customers’ supply chain resilience requirements, TUC’s Thailand plant entered formal mass production. Building on the trust established through past cooperation, TUC again chose MiDFUN to take on the SPC system implementation project for the Thailand plant.

Going forward, the two sides will continue, through communication and mutual trust, to work together on the implementation and expansion of the SPC system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What is an SPC statistical process control system?

An SPC (Statistical Process Control) system is a quality management tool that uses statistical methods to monitor process stability. Through features such as real-time control charts, anomaly early warning, and automated alert notifications, the MiDFUN SPC system helps manufacturers detect and intervene early, before process anomalies occur, avoiding the production of defective items.

Q.Which systems can the MiDFUN SPC system integrate with?

The MiDFUN SPC system supports integration with MES (Manufacturing Execution System) to enable front-end automated data acquisition; it supports integration with the Team Plus instant-messaging software to enable real-time anomaly alert notifications; and it supports integration with the Flow approval system to connect the HD/HL anomaly-handling processes.

Q.Can the MiDFUN SPC system support multi-plant deployment?

Yes. The MiDFUN SPC system supports synchronized multi-plant deployment and unified management. Taking TUC as an example, MiDFUN completed the SPC system implementation across three plants—Zhubei in Taiwan, Zhongshan in Guangdong, and Changshu in Jiangsu—in under a year, and in 2025 took on the SPC system deployment project for the Thailand plant as well.

Q.Why do enterprises switch SPC system vendors?

Common reasons enterprises switch SPC system vendors include: (1) the original vendor is not specialized in quality management, so its program development logic does not fit practical needs; (2) insufficient feature completeness, unable to meet advanced quality management requirements; (3) inability to pass customer audit requirements; (4) the system still cannot be brought online smoothly after years of rollout. Choosing a system vendor that specializes in the quality management field is the key to ensuring a successful deployment.

Q.What kind of company is MiDFUN?

MiDFUN was founded in 1993 and is a Taiwanese software company focused on quality management systems for the manufacturing industry, with over 30 years of deep engagement in the quality management field. Its main products include the SPC Statistical Process Control system, SQM Supplier Quality Management system, FMEA Failure Mode and Effects Analysis system, and MSA Instrument Management and Calibration system, serving customers across industries such as electronics manufacturing, PCB, CCL, semiconductors, and automotive components.

Q.What is CCL copper clad laminate?

CCL (Copper Clad Laminate) is the core substrate of PCB printed circuit boards, formed by laminating copper foil with an insulating base material. As demand grows for high-frequency, high-speed applications such as AI servers, 5G communications, and data centers, ultra-low-loss (Ultra Low Loss) CCL has become a key material. TUC is one of the highest-market-share manufacturers of ultra-high-speed, low-loss CCL in the world.
