National Aerospace Fasteners Corporation (NAFCO), founded in October 1997, is primarily engaged in the design, research and development, and manufacture of fastener products for aerospace, electronics, and high-end industrial applications. Since its establishment, the company has successively obtained multiple quality certifications such as AS9100, TS16949, and NADCAP, as well as customer-specific process approvals.
Because of the nature of its products, the company’s quality requirements have always been extremely high, so a stable and reliable system was the key consideration in its initial selection process. After nearly two years of evaluation, the company ran a small-scale pilot of MiDFUN’s SPC system in 2011. Although different units raised varying opinions during the rollout, through communication and explanation by the implementation teams on both sides the go-live target was still met within one year. At the same time, because the execution benefits were high and MiDFUN’s SPC system had become essential reference data for many managers’ decision-making, the deployment scale was gradually expanded in subsequent years such as 2013 and 2016, achieving the goal of plant-wide adoption.
One benefit of adopting the MiDFUN SPC system is its wealth of automation experience. The company had originally worked with ITRI to develop an optical full-inspection machine and was struggling with how to integrate it with the SPC system. Thanks to MiDFUN’s more than two decades of automation experience, a solution was proposed after just a few meetings, quickly achieving the original project goal. Afterward, all gauges in the plant were also connected; combined with the data receiver developed by MiDFUN and integrated with the original system’s operating settings, this simplified the time staff spent on data entry.
2017
Because the existing in-house calibration system could not meet the requirements both inside and outside the plant, the company also chose, through its selection process, to adopt MiDFUN’s MSA system. With MiDFUN’s assistance, data on tens of thousands of existing inspection instruments in the plant was smoothly migrated into MiDFUN’s MSA system. And because the system integrates GR&R analysis functions, the company is now better equipped to handle customer requirements, gaining complete control from internal calibration data → master gauge management → external calibration report management → calibration personnel qualification management → MSA GR&R analysis.
2018
The company now belongs to the Getac Group, and due to shared group resources and system requirements, this year it has integrated the plant’s MES system (electronic dashboard) with the MiDFUN SPC system, allowing quality results and process capability to be presented in real time according to the plant’s needs. The company also looks forward to further expanding its QRP system deployment plans, such as FMEA and SQM, in the future.
