Customer Profile: Kingston Technology

Kingston Technology was founded in 1987 and is headquartered in Fountain Valley, California, USA. It is the world’s largest independent manufacturer of memory products. According to DRAMeXchange statistics, Kingston holds approximately 68% of the global third-party DRAM module market share, making it an industry-leading brand.

Kingston’s main product lines cover memory modules, solid-state drives (SSDs), USB flash drives, memory cards, card readers, gaming peripherals, embedded memory products, and other solutions. The company operates manufacturing and logistics centers in the United States, Taiwan, China, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, serving distributors, retailers, and OEM customers across six continents.

Project Background and Challenges

In August 2017, Kingston’s global quality assurance department launched a quality management system evaluation project. Because this unit is responsible for planning the execution of quality systems across the global group, it took a highly cautious approach to system evaluation. The selection criteria had to satisfy the quality management needs of the Taiwan plant while enabling group-wide resource sharing and unified management.

The main challenges Kingston faced included:

Equipment data integration: Process equipment such as the SE500 needed to connect in real time with the SPC system to enable automated data collection and monitoring.

Supplier collaboration efficiency: Operations such as mold management and material declaration relied on manual back-and-forth communication, resulting in low efficiency.

Information security compliance requirements: The group’s information security policy required the system to integrate a multi-factor authentication mechanism.

Why Kingston Chose MiDFUN

After multiple rounds of evaluation involving numerous domestic and international vendors, Kingston ultimately chose to partner with MiDFUN. The key factors included:

A Professional R&D Team with Scale

MiDFUN has cultivated the manufacturing quality management field for over 30 years and possesses a complete product line and a professional service team. Compared with individual studios or general ERP/MES vendors, MiDFUN can provide one-stop service spanning system planning, custom development, and ongoing maintenance.

Flexible System Integration Capability

MiDFUN’s system was able to integrate with Kingston’s existing IT architecture, including the Microsoft Azure-MFA multi-factor authentication mechanism, satisfying the group’s information security operations management requirements.

Partnership Milestones and Implementation Timeline

Kingston and MiDFUN adopted a phased implementation strategy, gradually expanding from a single system to a complete supplier quality management ecosystem:

Year System Implemented Key Milestone
2017 MiDFUN SPC System First collaboration; completed system evaluation and SE500 equipment data integration
2019 MiDFUN SPC System Expansion Added underfill and de-panel process data integration
2022 MiDFUN MSA Gauge Calibration System Managed thousands of gauge instruments on-site, with proactive reminders to prevent overdue calibration, incorporating ESD management
2022 MiDFUN SQM + SQP System Used by compliance and quality-assurance SQE personnel; integrated the Microsoft Azure-MFA authentication mechanism
2023 Customer-Supplied Item (Mold) Management Function Digitalized the entire process of mold requirement issuance, supplier response, and history tracking through SQM/SQP
2024–2025 GPD Green Product Declaration Management Brought MD material declaration and FMD full material declaration into systematic management

Implementation Results and Benefits

Mold Management Efficiency Improved by Over 50%

After implementing the mold management function in 2023, Kingston’s procurement unit reduced its original manual management workload by more than half. Through MiDFUN’s SQM system, Kingston can directly issue new mold requirement notifications to suppliers; suppliers in turn fill in and respond to requirement forms online through MiDFUN’s SQP system, greatly improving two-way communication efficiency.

Zero Overdue Gauge Management

The proactive reminder function of MiDFUN’s MSA gauge calibration management system effectively prevents overdue calibration and maintenance of thousands of gauge instruments, ensuring the reliability of measurement data and the compliance of the quality system.

Digitalized Compliance Operations

From 2024 to 2025, Kingston’s compliance unit brought GPD operations into MiDFUN’s SQM/SQP system management, including MD material declaration and FMD full material declaration. Automated system consolidation replaced the original manual compilation, significantly reducing the operational burden and improving data accuracy.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

Since their first collaboration in 2017, Kingston and MiDFUN have built a close partnership spanning eight years. From the initial SPC system implementation, the collaboration has gradually expanded to gauge calibration management, supplier quality management, customer-supplied item management, and digitalized compliance operations—demonstrating the extensibility of MiDFUN’s systems and Kingston’s trust in MiDFUN’s professional capabilities.

Looking ahead, both parties will uphold the collaborative philosophy of “quality first” and continue to deepen and broaden their areas of cooperation. In the near future, Kingston plans to integrate MiDFUN’s carbon footprint management system with its ERP system to further refine a complete supplier quality management system spanning from compliance to product quality, setting a benchmark for the digital transformation of the supply chain.

Glossary

SPC (Statistical Process Control)SPC is a method of using data to monitor production stability. Imagine weighing yourself every day: if your weight suddenly spikes or drops, you know something may be wrong with your body. SPC does the same thing for a production line—continuously monitoring data so that when an abnormal trend appears, adjustments can be made in time before products go wrong.
SQM (Supplier Quality Management)SQM is a systematic approach to managing supplier quality. Just as a school manages student grades, a company uses SQM to track each supplier’s quality performance, handle abnormal issues, and manage document exchanges, ensuring that purchased raw materials and parts all meet quality requirements.
MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)MSA is a method of checking whether “measurement tools are reliable.” If your bathroom scale gives a very different reading every time, you have no idea how much you actually weigh. MSA ensures that a factory’s measurement equipment is accurate, so the data it produces is meaningful.
FMD (Full Material Declaration)FMD is a document that discloses in detail all of a product’s chemical components, much like the nutrition label on food. Electronic products must provide an FMD so that downstream manufacturers and regulatory bodies know whether the product contains hazardous substances (such as lead or mercury), in order to comply with environmental regulations such as RoHS and REACH.
MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)MFA is a login method that strengthens account security. In addition to entering a password, a second verification step (such as a mobile verification code or fingerprint) is required to log in. Just as withdrawing cash from a bank requires both a card and a PIN, even if a password is stolen, the system cannot be accessed without the second verification.

Frequently Asked Questions
