China Chemical & Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. was founded in 1952 and was the first integrated pharmaceutical plant in Taiwan to implement GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice). Its main products include human Western medicines, veterinary drugs, and household healthcare products, with more than four hundred products in total. With a current workforce of about one thousand employees, the company has Taiwan’s largest and most uniquely skilled R&D team. Over the years it has carried out numerous collaborations with leading pharmaceutical companies across Europe and the United States, introduced the finest products, and continued to expand and develop. It also established the nation’s most complete pharmaceutical research center, conducting a full series of research and development in fermentation, synthesis, and formulation, setting a new milestone on its path toward international standards of technology.
China Chemical & Pharmaceutical (Hsinfeng Plant) adopted the MiDFUN SPC system in 2014, with the goal of improving the efficiency of quality control operations. Because the plant produces a wide variety of pharmaceutical products and every item must undergo rigorous testing, the volume of data generated is, as one can imagine, enormous. Regulations also require various test reports to be drawn up, such as COA quality test reports, stability testing, and product quality assessments, which were not only time-consuming and labor-intensive but also difficult to archive. After half a year of implementation, the system replaced the previous paper-based workflow. The various reports that once had to be continuously compiled can now be exported with a single click. In addition, the powerful analytical capabilities of the SPC system enable immediate response and corrective action the moment an anomaly occurs. At the same time, the application of control charts not only strengthens staff knowledge of quality but also allows supervisors to accurately monitor production quality!
In 2016, in light of the results achieved at the Hsinfeng Plant, and with the unanimous agreement of managers at all levels in the quality assurance and information departments, the Taichung Plant followed suit and adopted the MiDFUN SPC system. Today the two plants operate on the same system, sharing a common language and exchanging information more quickly. China Chemical & Pharmaceutical can be considered a highly successful case of transformation in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry! After in-depth use and report automation in 2017, in 2018 both sides further advanced the digitalization of Taiwan’s biotech and pharmaceutical sector, working toward entry into international markets.
