Powertech Technology (PTI): Deploying MiDFUN SQM + SPC + ANF + Automated Connectivity

最後更新:2026.06.22

Powertech Technology Inc. (PTI) was founded in 1997 and is a global leader in back-end IC services. Its scope of services spans wafer probing, packaging, testing, burn-in, and worldwide shipment of finished products. Today, PTI already has more than 10,000 employees worldwide and several world-class plants located in Hsinchu in Taiwan and in Xi’an, Suzhou, and other locations in mainland China, and in 2017 it acquired a plant in Japan. The company makes good use of a strategic alliance model and an attitude of never being satisfied with the status quo to provide the most reliable quality to customers around the world.

Because of its rapid growth and its need for a strong quality-supplier partner, after a year of evaluation PTI deployed the MiDFUN SPC system in 2008 to replace its original system from the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and by the end of 2008 it achieved its goal of having several hundred people across all four plants using the system at the same time. After more than a year of cooperation with MiDFUN, and thanks to its trust in the MiDFUN system, in 2009 it further decided to entrust the automation of all on-site measurement instruments to MiDFUN for unified deployment, from push-pull force gauges, coordinate measuring machines, and toolmaker’s microscopes to AOI automated optical inspection machines. Thanks to the MiDFUN team’s more than 20 years of automation experience and abundant R&D manpower, the system went live after just over three months of cooperation, saving the plant a great deal of trial-and-error cost; according to its internal assessment, the benefits in time and labor cost amounted to savings of at least several million per year, not even counting the machine-efficiency cost that might be saved.

Thanks to the successful experience of deploying the MiDFUN system, the affiliated enterprise established afterward — Greatek Technology (now merged into PTI) — also followed suit and deployed the MiDFUN system, passing the customer system audit within one month, which won the MiDFUN team’s service capability and system capability even greater recognition from the managers concerned. In addition, in 2009 PTI acquired Spansion’s Suzhou plant, and just when the relevant personnel were worried about whether support might be a problem, they discovered that MiDFUN had long since established a presence in mainland China, with technical manpower and service experience already at a certain level, giving the plant’s personnel even more confidence in future system expansion. In 2015, PTI and Micron set up a joint-venture plant in Xi’an, which also fully deployed the MiDFUN quality system (SQM + SPC + ANF + automated connectivity). To this day, in 2023 it continues to make refinements, introducing the DCM_AI system to automate and optimize analysis efficiency.

Now, as MiDFUN continuously accumulates experience and grows through cooperation with customers, customers need not worry about how, in today’s ever-changing world, to find a company that can be fully trusted and that keeps innovating technologically to meet changing market demands. It is precisely because of customers’ continued support and guidance that MiDFUN keeps making progress, leading market demand and raising quality, while standing at the forefront of the industry and innovating for the future.

Deploying the MiDFUN SQM System

PTI began deploying the MiDFUN SQM system in 2011. Because electronic-product incoming materials comprise hundreds of major categories and tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand types of products, and because the sampling procedures, sampling plans, and control items differ for suppliers of different grades, the in-house ACCESS system the company had previously used could not handle so many types of variation, and afterward the IT staff who had developed it left. After the SQM engineers and managers responsible discussed matters with MiDFUN’s specialists, they affirmed MiDFUN’s professional capabilities and technology in supplier management, and so they entrusted MiDFUN to develop this PTI SQM system on top of the packaged system. After half a year of development and three years of operation, it won the recognition and praise of major international firms such as Intel, SanDisk, and Micron, and was later expanded for full use at the Suzhou and Xi’an plants.

In 2015, in response to the need for system integration, it was integrated and linked with PTI’s SAP and BPM systems and the PTI-WEB supplier management platform developed by the company, achieving system integration from SAP order → SAP material receipt → SQM inspection automation → SQM pass transferred to SAP, with nonconforming materials automatically routed for sign-off → BPM → supplier 8D/CAR → SQM consolidation and evaluation, reducing a great deal of duplicated manpower and avoiding errors, while the time for system interconnection was reduced from the original several days to several hours, saving substantial cost.

In 2019 the automated supplier COA upload system was fully integrated, and in 2020 it will move further, in fine detail, toward automating supplier shipment inspection reports, bringing Industry 4.0 integration forward into the supply-chain system. We believe that, on this stable system foundation, the two sides will surely be able to go a step further on the existing excellent e-COA system, laying the groundwork for both parties’ competitiveness and widening the gap with competitors.

Deploying the MiDFUN ANF (COM) System

PTI began deploying the MiDFUN ANF system in 2010. Before deploying this system, because the processes and raw materials differed across departments, the anomaly modes and subsequent handling procedures were all different, so previously each department used Excel and worked separately, and the various different forms also flowed in different directions and followed different procedures because of their different natures; thus Excel was used for many years, with problems cropping up everywhere yet no good method could be found to handle them. It was not until after deploying MiDFUN SPC that senior managers instructed the process managers to consult quality assurance to understand how the MiDFUN system could be applied. MiDFUN and PTI’s various department managers spent nearly a year planning, step by step, a system suited to PTI’s use. This system has now been in use for eight years and has been deployed at every plant in Taiwan and at the plants in mainland China, and every year the two sides update and improve the system in response to the using units’ new requirements and the customer’s ideas. In 2018 standard operating procedures were further established for the suspect batches before and after an anomaly, raising anomaly alerting to an even higher level. For anomaly handling in the smart factory of 2023, building on the present solid foundation and the KNOW-HOW stored in the knowledge base, the goal is to gradually elevate the existing system into a smart-factory anomaly-handling system. We also believe that in the days to come the two sides will advance hand in hand to enhance Taiwan’s competitiveness!
