LCY Chemical Corp. was founded in 1965 and has been engaged in the petrochemical raw materials field for more than 50 years. The company operates business units spanning methanol, solvents, electronic chemicals, rubber, and high-performance plastics. Across all of its business units, it demands a constant pursuit of innovation that goes beyond the framework of existing models, raising quality to the level of a world-class enterprise. To this end, it joined forces with strategic partner MiDFUN to pioneer a new model on the quality front, allowing the company to maintain a leading competitive advantage. LCY Chemical is not only Taiwan’s specialist manufacturer of electronic-grade isopropyl alcohol and acetone, but also one of the world’s top three producers of thermoplastic elastomers.
How to raise quality to a world-class level had troubled LCY Chemical for a long time, as paper-based and Excel-based operations could no longer meet the needs both inside and outside the plant. Therefore, at management’s request, a need arose to build a quality system. When evaluating vendors, cost was not the primary control point; instead, the assessment of the quality system focused on statistical quality expertise and extensive experience with a wide range of customers. In the end, MiDFUN successfully became a strategic partner of LCY Chemical. Through the collaboration and interaction between the two sides, the first phase introduced an SPC system for the quality portion, using instrument connectivity to reduce manpower requirements and to control and analyze quality. The second phase went further, introducing automated report distribution and the modules required by TSMC. The success of this rollout built mutual trust between the two sides. A third phase is currently under evaluation, which is expected to tightly integrate the sample-submission and inspection workflow with the generation of COA reports.
Looking ahead, in addition to jointly and continuously refining their quality policy, LCY Chemical and MiDFUN are also actively integrating the analysis of production parameters and quality parameters, in the hope of providing a wealth of reference information for product research and development in the future.
