Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology Corp. (TSMT) is a world-leading supplier of surface mount technology (SMT) production solutions for thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal displays (TFT-LCD). Its scope of business covers the procurement and management of raw materials and components, engineering design processes, SMT assembly processes, quality assurance, logistics management, and after-sales service.

TSMT established its Dongguan plant in mainland China in May 1997, its Suzhou plant in October 1999, its Nanjing plant in February 2004, its Ningbo plant in January 2006, its Xiamen plant in September 2007, its Hefei plant in January 2010, its Chongqing plant in July 2010, its Chengdu plant in 2013, and its India plant in 2017. With its Guishan plant in Taiwan serving as the operations center, it began building a professional service network to meet customers’ real-time needs.

Upholding the management philosophy of “customer first,” TSMT is committed to maintaining a high level of quality and providing customers with the best service. TSMT has successfully obtained ISO9001 quality management and ISO14001 environmental management system certifications, and has passed the quality audits of Dell, Pioneer, and Bosch. At the same time, the company places emphasis on environmentally friendly production facilities and processes, and fully complies with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requirements established by the European Union.

TSMT adopted MiDFUN’s SPC system in 2018. The competing vendor at the time was another major international software company; the main reason MiDFUN won was that other Taiwanese and mainland Chinese suppliers of its overseas customers had been using MiDFUN SPC to provide shipment quality reports for many years and had already certified it. Another reason was MiDFUN’s ability to provide localized automated instrument connectivity, linking SPI automated inspection machines and AOI custom machines from Taiwanese vendors. After the purchase, the professionalism and rich implementation experience of MiDFUN’s technical and support staff allowed TSMT’s quality personnel to go live smoothly and quickly.

In 2019, the deployment went deeper into R&D with the implementation of MiDFUN’s BKM PLUS, linking APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and CP through to DCC document management, so that R&D, production, quality control, and customer service could all complete their work smoothly on the same platform.

In 2020, it will be further promoted to the Jun Ling Suzhou plant in mainland China and other mainland plants, extending the successful experience of the Taiwan headquarters to other branches.

In addition, after implementing MSA, the plant manager recognized the systematic benefits of the past gauge calibration system and considered whether it could be extended to the maintenance and upkeep control of production machines. Through communication and planning between Deputy Manager Song of the IT department and the plant manager, MSA was connected to the production system at the end of 2019. Using the analysis and alert functions already built into MiDFUN MSA, the maintenance plans and content of production machines were periodically processed so that production machines nearing their due date and those already overdue were sent to the production system; when work orders were issued, overdue-maintenance and abnormal production machines would be avoided. This allowed the thousands of production machines, due at different locations and different times, to be brought under systematic control.
