Shih Hsiang Auto Parts Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shih Hsiang Auto Parts) was founded in the 1970s and is one of Taiwan’s leading manufacturers of automotive aftermarket (AM) components. The company focuses on the R&D and manufacturing of high-precision, high-quality automotive suspension system parts, steering system parts, and other key chassis components.
Shih Hsiang Auto Parts has built a strong brand reputation in the global AM market, with a complex product line and extremely high requirements for quality control. Faced with the rapid changes in the global automotive industry supply chain and the increasingly stringent demands for real-time collaboration and transparency, Shih Hsiang Auto Parts urgently needed a modern digital tool to optimize the management processes of its hundreds of domestic and international suppliers.
To address the challenges facing supply chain management, we deployed the MiDFUN SQM Supplier Quality Management System (Supplier Quality Management System) and the SQP Global Supplier Management Network Collaboration Platform (Supplier Quality Platform-Web) for Shih Hsiang Auto Parts.
The MiDFUN SQM Supplier Quality Management System is not only a hub for consolidating supplier COA data; it also connects to the SQP two-way collaboration portal. Its core modules include:
- Purchasing and Receiving Management: Seamlessly integrates purchasing, receiving, and the ERP system.
- Incoming Material Quality Management: Incoming inspection, consolidation of supplier IPQC/FQC, MRB, and quality trend analysis.
- Supplier Evaluation Management: Supplier qualification approval, periodic audits, technical capability approval, and comprehensive evaluation.
- SQP Two-Way Collaboration Portal: Different permission and function settings for suppliers and the central plant, an IE Web network platform, a shipment operation inquiry module, a customer complaint message module, and a bulletin board module.
Before deploying the MiDFUN SQM+SQP system platform, Shih Hsiang Auto Parts’ supplier management processes faced several major pain points:
Problem A: Fragmented Information and Communication Delays
Purchasing, receiving, drawing versions, and quality documents (such as RoHS certificates and dimensional reports) were mostly exchanged via email. Document versions were easily confused, suppliers did not respond with delivery dates in real time, and as a result the internal purchasing and production scheduling departments had to spend a great deal of time on manual cross-checking and material chasing.
Problem B: Low Efficiency in Quality Traceability and Anomaly Handling
Although Shih Hsiang Auto Parts had strict requirements for incoming material quality, the incoming inspection data (IQC) reported by suppliers was difficult to digitize and archive quickly. Once a quality anomaly occurred, the process of transmitting, reviewing, and tracking improvements for 8D reports was slow and lacked systematic records.
Problem C: Lack of Objectivity and Timeliness in Performance Evaluation
The annual evaluation of suppliers was based mainly on manual statistics and subjective judgment, and the evaluation cycle was long (usually quarterly or semi-annual/annual). This meant it could not provide timely feedback on suppliers’ recent performance, making it difficult to serve as a basis for rapid decision-making (such as the allocation of urgent orders).
With its collaborative and automation capabilities, the MiDFUN SQM+SQP system platform provided Shih Hsiang Auto Parts with a one-stop solution:
- Fragmented information: A unified central-plant system and a supplier collaboration portal were established, with all purchasing, receiving, drawing versions, and quality documents centralized in the MiDFUN SQM+SQP system. Suppliers receive and confirm information through a standard interface, ensuring the uniqueness of documents and the correctness of their versions.
- Communication delays: An automatic delivery-date reply and alert mechanism. The system automatically calculates expected delivery dates based on presets, and if there is a delay, the system automatically notifies the relevant purchasing personnel, shifting material-chasing work from “manual” to “system-driven.”
- Difficult quality traceability: A standardized system process under which all suppliers must submit IQC inspection reports uniformly through the platform. A subsequent plan is to automatically import the data into a database, achieving electronic traceability of incoming material data. When a supplier anomaly occurs, the system can provide suppliers with 8D and CAR form process templates and require suppliers to submit improvement actions step by step.
- Subjective performance evaluation: A formula-based interface for effective supplier performance was established. It can calculate objective metrics such as “on-time order rate,” “IQC pass rate,” and “quotation accuracy,” and produce an objective performance report each month, shifting supplier management from “subjective impressions” toward “data-driven” decisions.
The value of the MiDFUN SQM+SQP system platform is not limited to supplier interaction; it also lies in its deep integration with the enterprise’s core systems, creating higher operational efficiency for Shih Hsiang Auto Parts. The current plan is to integrate the ERP system in the next year to carry out two-way data flow integration, which is the core of achieving automated management:
- Integration of master data with the ERP system: Through an API interface or the MIC platform, seamless data exchange with Shih Hsiang Auto Parts’ existing ERP system was achieved. Master data such as purchase orders, supply changes, and bills of materials is transmitted directly from the ERP to the SQM system, eliminating manual data-entry errors.
- Integration of supplier scoring with the ERP system: The platform further provides scoring data to the ERP purchasing unit, which can use these scores as a reference when evaluating order quantities; in addition, this can later be advanced to prepare for supply chain risk early warning.
The deployment of the MiDFUN SQM+SQP system platform successfully transformed Shih Hsiang Auto Parts’ supplier management model from passive manual tracking into a proactive, data-driven intelligent collaboration model, laying a solid digital foundation for its continued growth in the global AM market.
