AIAG-VDA SPC Yellow Volume Draft Now Public, MSA/VDA 5 Integration Progress Tracker

Update 2026-04-30: The AIAG-VDA SPC Yellow Volume draft was opened for Stakeholder Review in February 2026. Based on the VDA QMC project status, the official Red Volume release is expected in Q3 2026. The MSA/VDA 5 integration project (PG MSA/VDA 5) is currently listed as inactive, with no formal release schedule yet. MiDFUN will continue to track the official content and help customers update their systems and operating procedures in line with IATF 16949 and customer CSR requirements.

SPC Yellow Volume Draft Now Public, Red Volume Expected Q3 2026; MSA/VDA 5 Integration Not Yet Started

Based on the current public project status, SPC has entered the Yellow Volume draft review stage, while the MSA/VDA 5 integration has not yet started. The architecture of the subsequent core tool manuals must still follow the official AIAG/VDA announcement. The original planned direction was as follows:
One set of core tool manuals, the AIAG-VDA SPC manual and the AIAG-VDA MSA manual
and another set of practical application guides, the SPC Practical Application Guide and the MSA Practical Application Guide
The new standard architecture will present the theoretical foundations and practical applications more clearly, helping enterprises better improve product quality.

The new SPC manual will be centered on VDA 5
integrating the strengths of international standards such as VDA, AIAG and ISO
to build a more comprehensive and consistent statistical process control framework
At the same time, to help enterprises better put the standard into actual practice
a separate practical application guide will be published, offering rich case studies and practical guidance.

The core of the new MSA standard lies in defining the concepts of measurement system and measurement process more clearly
and in quantifying measurement uncertainty and capability ratios more precisely
In addition, for the analysis of attribute gauges
the new standard provides more complete analysis methods
to ensure the reliability of measurement results.

Clear Definitions of Measurement and Inspection

Measurement system
A set of measuring instruments, usually including other equipment and, where necessary, the arranged reagents and facilities, that can provide information to obtain measured values of a specific type of quantity within a defined interval.

Measurement process
A series of operations to determine the value of a quantity.

Inspection process
Performing inspection and determining the inspection verdict by comparing the result of the measurement process with a given specification, giving due consideration to the assessment of measurement uncertainty.

In the future, the MiDFUN system will provide functionality that meets the new requirements for measurement uncertainty, accurately calculating the combined uncertainty and expanded uncertainty introduced by the measurement process and the measurement system. Users only need to enter the experimental data to quickly obtain a precise measurement uncertainty assessment result.

In addition, for the new CP requirement of periodic verification of 100% visual inspection
the new MSA also proposes four analysis methods to help verify the reliability of attribute gauges
namely: the small-sample method, effectiveness, the Bowker test and the kappa test
which can also be used right now to generate report data conforming to the new requirements through the MiDFUN system!
